Sunlight brings out the brilliant cerulean color of Lower Blue Lake, nestled in Colorado’s rugged and wild San Juan Mountains. The milky-turquoise color of the lake is caused by the presence of rock flour, finely-ground particles of rock formed by glacial erosion, in the lake. These rock particles become suspended in the water, giving the lake its vivid color when light hits the water. Prints Available.
